On December 7, 1941 life in the US. Overnight the country was asked to contribute everything humanly possible to the war effort. Nearly every commodity in the US was at a premium. Food and fuel were rationed. Blackouts along our coastlines became a nightly occurrence. All form of metal was recycled - even car bumpers were handed over to help. My grandmother was a young naval wife during the war and the impact of those years - having to survive on next to nothing and use ingenuity to re-purpose everything in her house - it changed her forever. She was still darning socks and saving hosiery up until her death. Many women found themselves having to work outside the home for the very first time in their family histories. Our country's culture, landscape and economic future changed drastically during this war. This kit is inspired by one piece of World War 2 - the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the unforgettable patriotism that rose from within our country during the years to follow.
